Images of Gordon's Life

Gordon had an extremely serious car accident on December 20, 1986, while driving from Charlottesville to Richmond. A mother with kids in her car pulled suddenly in front of him and he had a split-second decision whether to hit the car with kids or hit a concrete bridge abutment. He hit the concrete head-on at over 60 m.p.h., breaking practically every bone on the left side of his body and crumbling his left leg bones into hundreds of splinters. The leg was almost amputated at UVA Hospital. Gordon was in pain from this for the rest of his life. The photo shows Gordon in his wheel chair not long after the accident.
