Jerry was an extraordinarily gifted musician and a true pioneer in 20th
Century music. On a bad day, he was a brilliant guitarist. On a good
day, well, it just can't be explained. Like a spectacular sunset or the
colors on a wild trout - Jerry was nothing less than a gift from God. We
will always love him for sharing so freely with us.

This is a great loss for everyone. I feel it will be a greater loss if a
talented group like Phil, Bob, Bill, Mickey and Vinnie stop playing together.
I know it will take the band members longer to heal than any of us, but I
truly hope that the boys will find a way to carry on. On the other hand, I
don't think it can ever be the Grateful Dead without the man in the black
T-shirt. Let's keep in touch, friends!

sweet rhythms, and we love him for that.

After all the scares and rumors of health problems the last few years
that Jerry survived, I guess I'd come to think of him as immortal. I'd
gotten used to having him around. The world is a poorer place today for
the loss. I joined the family in 1975, and it's significant to note
that there's no other music that I've been listening to steadily for 20
years, more than half my life.

A box of rain will ease the pain....

Part of me is numb. I have spent half my life in the company of Jerry's
family. Thank you Jerry for all the love you have brought to my life.
You will be missed.

Buddy Holly died on my father's birthday. Bob Marley died on my
mother's birthday. Elvis died on my sister's birthday. John Lennon
died on my best friend's birthday, and now Jerry is gone early in the
morning between my wife's and brother-in-law's birthday. If that isn't
enough, the Dead played their last concert on mine. This is true,
believe-it-or not. Makes me wonder what my life has to do with this.
Then realize that I have become part of something special. But
thinking about it leads me nowhere. I will remember you Jerry Garcia
and share my memories with my children.

Thank You for A Real Good Time.

To the Garcia family and Members (past and present) of the Grateful Dead,

Condolences from us in Rochester NY. The times ahead are going
to be rough, but you will survive. The has never been a man who has touch
so many with so little. His music was an insperation for us all, his life
was one big joy. Everyone has their own personal memories of the Grateful
Dead, but they all revolve around the same thing, peace and happiness.
Take care and remember even though jerry isn't with us physically his work
will last forever.

        Your in my prayers,
                Frank Casilio

To the members of the Grateful Dead
and the family of Jerry Garcia:
I am a member of the Boston Fan Club Homepage here
on the Internet. Boston is most known for songs like "More Than
a Feeling", "Amanda", "Don't Look Back", etc. On behalf of
myself and the other members of the Boston Homepage, in addition
I'm sure, to Boston band members Brad Delp, Tom Scholz, Fran
Cosmo, and the other members, past and present, we wish to
extend our deep heartfelt sorrow to all of you in the loss of
Jerry. We all acknowledge Jerry's talent and great contribution
he has made over the past 30 years to the world of rock n' roll.
Like some of Boston's songs, the Grateful Dead as well wrote
songs of hope that can serve as inspiration to us all. It is
with great sadness that we receive the news of his death. Jerry
will not be forgotten and his memory will be with us all
forever. Once again, on behalf of Boston and its fans, please
accept our condolences in the loss of a great man.

I had never been to a "dead" concert in my life until this past summer
when Jerry and the band came to Birmingham Alabama. They not only
brought one hell of a concert, but they brought a whole community, they
brought their own culture. The concert was great of course, and the
people were so much fun to hang out with. we visited their campsite all
near the civic center, buying t-shirts, and such. I even bought a peanut
butter sandwich from someone. it was as much fun as the concert. In a
way, I will feel the loss of jerry far worse than I would have thought.
I just wonder, where will jerry's "children" go now? most families lose
a family member at some time or another, but jerry's family has how many
millions in it? God rest your soul Jerry, enjoy the greatest trip of
all.

I was never a Deadhead, just a normal person who was deeply touched
by the Greateful Dead's music. I can mark my life by the various songs
that touched me deeply at different times. He was a visionary.
A gentle man with enormous talents and a cosmic sense far beyond most of us.

i feel that his life was prematurely taken from him at the age of 53.
However we have to forget that he is gone but we have to remember

To the Family of Jerry Garcia;
Thank you so much for sharing with all of us. He embodied an attitude of
respect and caring in so genuine a manner as to instill it in those who
admired his music. It is encouraging to know that it is still possible to
see that the best of man. I will not be sad as that is self indulgent. I
will however, endeavor to treat the persons with whom I have contact with the
sense of respect and good will engendered by those of us who followed Jerry
and the band. God bless and rest well Bear. See you soon enough. Unitl
then.

so sad,
Iwill always remember the freedom Jerry and friends allowed us.
It was OK to be yourself and not be persecuted or prosecuted for it.

There will always be love in my heart for all of you here in Nebraska.
may peace come to all of you soon .

I wanted to let you know the me and many other wharf rats found
inspiration to begin the road of recovery from addiction through
Jerry's music. I am very grateful that he died sober. I have
felt for a long time that it must be very difficult for him to
overcome his *difficulties* given his circumstances. Be that as
it may, I hope it brings you comfort to know that his music lit
a path for me and countless others to learn to live free of
drugs and alcohol.

Simply sad, here in Monterrey, Mexico. All the day in the office waiting
to get home and play Terrapin, Friend of the Devil or Uncle's John Band.
Only my wife knew how sad is this for me. Far from all the deadheads,
close to the Jerry's spirit floating up at my home all night long... Bye,
friend

hours, you changed my life. Thank you.

...and thank him for the joy and the music. Alas, that aspiration
     will never become a reality.

I wanted to thank him for the countless smiles and the endless miles.
I saw more of this country traveling to and from shows that I have for
any other reason. If my high school geography teacher had played such
enchanting music, perhaps I would have done better in her class.

I mostly wanted to thank him, and the rest of the boys, for the
friends that I have today. In many, many instances, my closest
friendships were formed thanks to a catalyst called The Grateful Dead.

If a person is judged by the number of lives they have touched, truly,
Jerry Garcia will be judged endlessly. Please be strong during this
time of great loss, as I'm sure that's no less than what he would have
expected. If there is anything I can do during this time of loss,
don't hesitate to contact me via e-mail. Jerry was there for me a
thousand times, and now I'd like to be there for him.
